BEHIND THE SCENES OF MEDUSA
Photography is more than just freezing moments in time—it’s about telling a story. And what better story to capture than one that reimagines mythology, power, and resilience?
I had the incredible opportunity to photograph the rehearsals for Medusa, a theater production written and directed by Kevo Aregbe. Before the stage was set for audiences, I stepped into the world of ancient myths and modern artistry, where actors refined their performances, emotions ran raw, and every movement was intentional.
The Power of Rehearsals
Rehearsals are where the magic truly begins. Unlike the polished final show, this is the space where characters are discovered, challenged, and brought to life. Every adjustment, every expression, and every breath taken on stage is part of the transformation.
📸 What I Captured:
Raw emotion – Unfiltered expressions before they become a part of the final act.
Theatrical lighting & movement – Understanding how light interacts with costumes, faces, and shadows.
The craft of storytelling – Watching actors mold their characters, step into their roles, and embody the essence of the play.
Technical Approach: Adapting to the Stage
Shooting in a theater setting comes with its challenges. Unlike controlled environments, here I had to work with low lighting, high contrast, and movement.
Stage lighting played a major role in how I framed my shots. The intensity and colors created a mood that I had to adjust for in-camera.
Composition and angles were crucial in telling the story—wide shots for atmosphere, close-ups for emotional depth.

Color vs. Black & White: The Art of Theatrical Photography
Photography isn't just about capturing a moment; it's about shaping how it's experienced. The color images bring the vibrancy of the production to life, highlighting the rich costumes, dramatic lighting, and stage design. Meanwhile, the black and white edits strip away distractions, allowing raw emotion, movement, and composition to take center stage. Each approach tells the story differently, showing how photography can transform a performance into an immersive visual experience.
